The Swiss Re Foundation has opened applications for the 2027 Entrepreneurs for Resilience (E4R) programme, targeting social enterprises developing innovative healthcare models to improve access to primary healthcare for low-income communities in low- and middle-income countries.

The first round of applications is specifically seeking organisations that combine physical points of care with a digital enabling layer to deliver or expand access to primary healthcare.

Applications for Round 1 close on October 4, 2026, at 23:59 CEST.

The Entrepreneurs for Resilience programme supports social enterprises developing solutions aimed at strengthening the resilience of underserved communities. Through its healthcare focus, the Swiss Re Foundation seeks to help enterprises improve access to healthcare while developing sustainable and scalable models.

For the 2027 programme, the focus is on organisations working to improve primary healthcare access for low-income populations in low- and middle-income countries through models that combine physical healthcare services with digital technology.

Eligible applicants should have a primary focus on improving access to primary healthcare for low-income populations and operate in a low- or middle-income country. They should also demonstrate measurable social impact, have a market-based model with potential for growth through earned revenue and have a strong management team with clearly defined responsibilities.

The programme also requires applicants to demonstrate significant social impact, with its broader programme criteria stating that at least 30% of an organisation’s customer base should comprise low-income populations.

The Foundation is particularly interested in healthcare enterprises using technology to strengthen how patients access, receive or manage primary healthcare while maintaining a physical point of care.

Support available through the Entrepreneurs for Resilience programme has historically included grants, blended funding, technical assistance, impact measurement support and networking opportunities. Selected enterprises may also gain access to investors and other healthcare stakeholders, as well as potential follow-on funding through partner organisations.

The Foundation’s published programme information indicates that USD 360,000 in grants may be shared among six to eight candidates following due diligence, while up to USD 1 million in blended funding may be shared among selected finalists over a two-year implementation period. These are programme-level funding arrangements and do not represent guaranteed funding amounts for individual applicants.

The current Round 1 application represents the first stage of the selection process. Applicants can save their progress and return to complete the application before submission. The Foundation advises applicants to enter “NA” with an explanation where a question does not apply to their organisation.

Organisations selected from the first round will be invited to submit a more detailed second-round application in late October or early November 2026. Shortlisted organisations may subsequently undergo further assessment and due diligence as part of the selection process.

The deadline for the 2027 Entrepreneurs for Resilience Round 1 application is October 4, 2026, at 23:59 CEST.

Eligible organisations can submit their applications online through the Swiss Re Foundation application portal.
