African Girl’s Guide (AGG) has encouraged young women to take advantage of available empowerment, mentorship and leadership opportunities to improve their education, careers and personal development.
The organisation’s Manager, Sophia Okiasi, made the call in Abuja while speaking on AGG’s efforts to support underserved girls and young women.
Okiasi said the organisation was committed to creating opportunities that would help young women build confidence, develop leadership skills and gain access to mentorship and education support.
She encouraged young women to join platforms that connect them with professionals and role models who can guide them in making informed decisions about their future.
The organisation recently graduated 37 young women from a 12-week empowerment programme focused on leadership, confidence building and personal development.
All participants received certificates, while 10 of them were recognised with outstanding awards for their participation and performance during the programme.
Okiasi urged the beneficiaries to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the programme in their academic, professional and personal lives.
She also called on governments at all levels to increase access to quality and affordable education, scholarships, safe learning environments and skills-development opportunities for girls.
According to her, stronger measures are also needed to protect girls from early and forced marriage, abuse, exploitation and other practices that could limit their education and development.
African Girl’s Guide is also working with institutions, including the National Orientation Agency, to increase awareness among young girls about their rights and available opportunities.
The organisation said partnerships among government agencies, parents, schools, traditional institutions, religious leaders and civil society groups would be important in addressing the barriers affecting girls.
AGG said it would continue to provide programmes aimed at helping young women develop the confidence, knowledge and support needed to pursue their goals and contribute positively to their communities.
