US City, Nigerian Foundation Partner to Advance Youth Leadership and Skills Development

The City of East Orange, New Jersey, United States, and the Ugwumba Leadership Centre for Africa have entered into a strategic partnership to strengthen youth leadership, skills development and human capital initiatives through collaborative programs in both Nigeria and the United States.

The partnership was announced following a meeting between East Orange Mayor Ted Green and the Founder of the Ugwumba Leadership Centre for Africa, Chief Uche Nwosu, in New Jersey.

According to both parties, the collaboration will focus on leadership training, vocational and entrepreneurial skills development, knowledge exchange and community-based initiatives designed to equip young people with the skills and leadership capacity needed to drive social and economic progress.

Mayor Green said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to deepening ties between East Orange and Nigeria by investing in leadership development and human capital.

He noted that the initiative would foster stronger collaboration between institutions and communities in both countries while promoting capacity building and the exchange of ideas.

As part of the engagement, the mayor presented Chief Uche Nwosu with the City of East Orange Award for Outstanding Leadership and Human Capacity Development and conferred on him the city’s official pin in recognition of his contributions to leadership development and community empowerment.

In his remarks, Nwosu described the partnership as a significant step towards creating sustainable opportunities for young people through leadership training and capacity-building programmes.

“This partnership is about investing in people. It is an opportunity to develop leaders, empower young people and create lasting opportunities that will benefit our communities,” he said.

He added that the collaboration would strengthen relationships between communities in Nigeria and the United States while supporting initiatives that promote leadership, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and sustainable community development.

Nwosu also acknowledged members of his delegation, including Kings Umege, Chief Ewhoma Tony Okpokparoro, Prince Anozie Ugenyi, and Kizito Umege, for their contributions to the engagement.

The Ugwumba Leadership Centre for Africa said the partnership will implement programmes focused on youth leadership, skills development, human capital advancement and sustainable community development, with the aim of equipping more young people with practical knowledge, entrepreneurial skills and opportunities that can improve livelihoods and drive long-term economic growth.
